Citroen Berlingo

Changing a wheel

  • The occupants must get out of the vehicle and wait in a safe location.
  • If possible, park the vehicle on level, stable and non-slippery ground.
  • Apply the parking brake, switch off the ignition and engage first or reverse gear.
  • Place the chock against the wheel diagonally opposite the one to be changed.

Changing a Wheel

2. Tools

The tools are stowed in an open storage compartment under a front seat:

  • If necessary, move the seat to access the storage compartment from the rear.
  • Take out the jack and tool carrier.
  • Remove the tools needed from the carrier:
    • 1. Jack
    • 2. Wheelbrace
    • 3. Chock
    • 4. Rear lamp spanner
    • 5. Allow wheel trim removal tool*
    • 6. Towing eye

If the vehicle is fitted with a towbar, it may be necessary to raise the vehicle slightly to remove the spare wheel. On certain types of ground or with heavy loads, call a CITROËN dealer or qualified workshop. *This tool is not needed for your version.

The jack and tool kit are specific to your vehicle. Do not use them for other purposes.

3. Spare Wheel
  • Detach the carrier from the hook and place the spare wheel near the wheel to be changed.
  • Unscrew the bolt using the wheelbrace until the carrier is lowered fully.
  • Open the rear doors to gain access to the spare wheel.
4. Procedure
  • Place the jack in contact with the locating point closest to the wheel to be changed.
  • Extend the jack until its head contacts the jacking point; the vehicle's contact area must be engaged.
  • Raise the vehicle until there is sufficient space to fit the spare wheel.
  • Resume and complete unscrewing of the wheel bolts, remove the bolts and wheel, and remove the wheel trim.
  • Ensure the jack is stable and positioned at a jacking point. If ground is slippery or loose, the jack may slip — Risk of injury!
  • Do not extend the jack until you have started unscrewing the wheel bolts and placed the chock under the diagonally opposite wheel.
Fitting the Spare Wheel
  • Lower the vehicle completely by folding the jack, then remove the jack.
  • Tighten the bolts using the wheelbrace fully without forcing.
  • Place the wheel to be repaired in the carrier, secure it on the hook, and raise the carrier by tightening the bolt.
  • Position the wheel on the hub, start tightening bolts by hand, then carry out initial tightening with the wheelbrace.
  • Never go underneath a vehicle supported only by a jack.
  • Never use a power driver instead of the wheelbrace.

Snow Screen

Removable snow screen (blanking cover) is installed on the lower front bumper to prevent snow accumulation at the radiator cooling fan. Remove when temperature is higher than 10°C or when towing.

Fitting / Removal
  • Pass a screwdriver into the hole near each clip.
  • Use the screwdriver as a lever to unclip the four clips in turn.
  • Offer up the snow screen facing its centring pin on the front bumper.
  • Press each clip located in the four corners to secure.

Refitting the Repaired Wheel

  • Refit the wheel as described above, remembering to refit the wheel trim.
  • Refer to chapter 9 “Identification markings” to locate the tyre label.
  • Refer to chapter 3 “Instruments and controls” for tyre under-inflation detection recommendations after changing a wheel with a sensor.
  • The spare wheel is not designed for long-distance use.
  • Have tightening of bolts and tyre pressure checked by a CITROËN dealer or qualified workshop as soon as possible.

Snow Chains

In wintry conditions, snow chains improve traction and braking behaviour. Fit only to driving wheels; never to “space-saver” spare wheels. Follow local legislation regarding use and maximum speed.

Advice on Installation
  • Stop on a flat surface, apply parking brake, and position wheel chocks.
  • Fit chains following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Move off gently, drive for a few moments without exceeding 30 mph (50 km/h).
  • Stop and check that chains are correctly tightened.
  • Practice fitting chains on level dry surface before leaving.
Chain Specifications
Original Tyre Size Maximum Link Size
195/65 R159 mm
195/70 R15
205/65 R15
215/55 R16
215/50 R17

Avoid driving on cleared roads to prevent damage to tyres and road surface. For alloy wheels, ensure chains or fixings do not touch the wheel rim.
