Honda Civic

Front Seats

Adjust the driver’s seat as far back as possible while maintaining full control of the vehicle. Sit upright, well back in the seat, press the pedals comfortably, and grip the steering wheel properly. The passenger seat should be adjusted similarly, keeping as far back from the front airbag as possible.

Adjusting the Front Power Seat(s) *

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Transport Canada recommend at least 10 inches (25 cm) between the center of the steering wheel and your chest. Always adjust seats before driving.

WARNING: Sitting too close to a front airbag can result in serious injury or death if it inflates. Always sit as far back as possible while maintaining control of the vehicle.
Seat Position Adjustments
  • Horizontal Position Adjustment
  • Height Adjustment (Driver’s seat only)
  • Seat-back Angle Adjustment

Adjusting the Front Manual Seat(s) *

Once a seat is adjusted correctly, rock it back and forth to ensure it is locked in position.

  • Horizontal Position: Pull up the bar to move the seat, then release.
  • Height Adjustment (Driver only): Pull up or push down the lever to raise or lower the seat.
  • Seat-back Angle: Pull the lever to adjust the angle.

Head Restraints

Front head restraints protect against whiplash when the center of the occupant’s head aligns with the center of the restraint. The tops of the ears should be level with the center height of the restraint.

  • To raise: Pull upward.
  • To lower: Press the release button and push down.
Proper Use and Maintenance
  • Do not hang items on or from the head restraints.
  • Do not place objects between occupant and seat-back.
  • Install each restraint in its proper location.

Removing and Reinstalling Head Restraints

To remove: Pull up fully, press the release button, and pull out. To reinstall: Insert the legs, adjust height while pressing the release button, and pull up to lock.

WARNING: Failure to reinstall correctly can cause severe injury during a crash. Always replace head restraints before driving.

Maintain a Proper Sitting Position

All occupants should sit upright, well back, and with feet on the floor until the vehicle is parked and engine off. Improper sitting increases the risk of injury during a crash.

WARNING: Sitting improperly can result in serious injury or death. Always sit upright, well back, with feet on the floor.

Rear Seats

  1. Pull the release lever in the trunk to release the lock.
  2. Fold the seat-back down.

Rear seat-back(s *) can fold down to accommodate bulkier items. Never drive with seat-back folded and trunk lid open.

To lock upright: Push backward until it locks. Ensure rear shoulder belts are in front of the seat-back and folded seat-back does not press against the front passenger seat.

Seat Armrests

The console lid can be used as a front armrest. Slide to adjust. Pull down the rear armrest in the center backrest for rear passengers.
