Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)*
Helps maintain a constant vehicle speed and a set following-interval behind a vehicle detected ahead of yours, without you having to keep your foot on the brake or accelerator.
Important Reminder
As with any system, there are limits to ACC. Use the brake pedal whenever necessary, and always keep a safe interval between your vehicle and other vehicles. The radar sensor for ACC is shared with the Collision Mitigation Braking SystemTM (CMBSTM). Refer to CMBSTM P. 473.
WARNING: Improper use of ACC can lead to a crash. Use ACC only when driving on expressways or freeways and in good weather conditions. ACC has limited braking capability. When vehicle speed drops below 22 mph (35 km/h), ACC will automatically cancel and will no longer apply the brakes. Always be prepared to apply the brake pedal.
When to use
- Vehicle speed: Desired speed above roughly 25 mph (40 km/h)
- Gear position: 2 or higher
- Radar sensor is located in the lower bumper; avoid impacts
- Camera located behind the rearview mirror
How to activate the system
Press the MAIN button on the steering wheel to turn ACC and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) on or off. ACC may not work properly under certain conditions. Refer to ACC Conditions and Limitations P. 504.
When not using ACC
- Turn off adaptive cruise by pressing the MAIN button (also turns off LKAS)
- Do not use ACC on heavy traffic, sharp turns, steep downhill sections, toll roads, parking areas, or drive-through facilities
- Maintain set speed by downshifting/upshifting if needed
How to use
- Press MAIN button; ACC (green) indicator lights on the instrument panel
- Release pedal and press –/SET to set desired speed; speed is fixed when button is released
- Vehicle icon, interval bars, and set speed appear on the driver information interface
- Straight Driving Assist helps keep vehicle in a straight line automatically
To Set the Vehicle Speed
Press and release –/SET button when ACC begins. You can switch displayed speed between mph and km/h.
Vehicle Ahead Detected
ACC monitors vehicles ahead. It maintains or decelerates set speed to keep following interval.
- If the vehicle ahead slows abruptly or cuts in, a beeper sounds and message appears. Depress brake and maintain interval.
- If no vehicle ahead, ACC maintains set speed automatically. If previously blocked, ACC accelerates back to set speed.
- Depressing accelerator temporarily increases speed; ACC resumes proper interval after release.
- Even if interval is short, ACC may accelerate when the vehicle ahead moves at similar or faster speed or a vehicle cuts in front gradually increasing the interval.
- You can enable a beep for vehicles entering/leaving ACC range (ACC Forward Vehicle Detect Beep setting)
Limitations
You may need to use the brake to maintain a safe interval. ACC may not work properly under certain conditions (refer to ACC Conditions and Limitations P. 504). A vehicle icon with dotted-line contour appears on the interface.
Automatic Shutoff Conditions
- Environmental: Driving in rain, fog, snow, etc.
- Roadway: Snowy/wet roads, obscured lane markings, high contrast, undulating/curvy roads
- Vehicle: Blocked windshield, abnormal tires/wheels, high camera temperature, parking brake applied, dirty radar sensor cover, heavy load, tire chains installed
Detection Limitations
- A vehicle suddenly crosses in front
- Interval between your vehicle and vehicle ahead too short
- Vehicle cuts in at slow speed and brakes suddenly
- Rapid acceleration approaching a vehicle ahead at high speed
- Vehicle ahead is a motorcycle, bicycle, mobility scooter, or small vehicle
- Animals in front
- Curved, winding, undulating road affects detection
- Significant speed difference with vehicle ahead or oncoming vehicle suddenly appears
- Vehicle abruptly crosses in front of oncoming vehicle, narrow bridge, sudden braking of vehicle ahead, unusual vehicle shapes, driving on lane edge, radar detects upper section of large vehicles (carrier truck, panel truck, tanker, etc.)
NOTE: If radar sensor is damaged or cover is impacted, turn off the system using MAIN button and take your vehicle to a dealer. Check the system if unusual behavior occurs.
