Cadillac Escalade

Power Assist Steps

Warning: To avoid personal injury or property damage, before entering or exiting the vehicle, be sure the power assist step is fully extended. Do not step on the power assist step while it is moving. Never place hands or other body parts between the extended power assist step and the vehicle.

If equipped, the power assist steps will deploy when the door is opened and automatically retract three seconds after the door is closed. They will retract immediately if the vehicle starts moving. Disable the power assist steps before jacking or placing any object under the vehicle. Too much ice buildup may prevent deployment. Check the step position before exiting. If obstructed, disable, clear, then enable the steps and confirm normal function.

Keep hands, children, pets, objects, and clothing clear. Steps will reverse direction if an obstruction is encountered. Remove obstruction, then open and close the door on the same side to complete the motion. If obstruction is not cleared, assist steps remain extended while driving.

To extend or retract both power assist steps for cleaning, see Vehicle Personalization 0 140.

Enable/Disable

To enable or disable the power assist steps, see Vehicle Personalization 0 140.

Vehicle Security

This vehicle has theft-deterrent features; however, they do not make the vehicle impossible to steal.

Vehicle Alarm System

The indicator light on the driver door near the window shows system status. See Power Door Locks 0 17.

Arming the Alarm System
  1. Turn off the vehicle.
  2. Lock the vehicle using one of:
    • Remote key
    • Keyless Access system
    • Press Q on interior door with door open

After 30 seconds, the alarm will arm and indicator light flashes. Press Q on remote key a second time to bypass 30-second delay. System will not arm if doors are locked with mechanical key. Pre-alarm activates if driver door is opened without first unlocking with remote key. Alarm activates for passenger door, liftgate, or hood opened without disarming.

Disarming the Alarm System

To disarm or turn off the alarm:

  • Press K on remote key
  • Unlock vehicle using Keyless Access system
  • Start the vehicle

To avoid accidental alarm: lock vehicle after all occupants exit, always unlock a door with remote key or Keyless Access system. Unlocking with mechanical key does not disarm alarm.

Detecting a Tamper Condition

If K is pressed and horn chirps three times, an alarm occurred previously. A message will appear on the DIC.

Power Sounder, Inclination Sensor, and Intrusion Sensor

System may include additional features:

  • Power Sounder: Audible alarm distinct from vehicle horn, independent power source.
  • Inclination Sensor: Detects vehicle movement or orientation changes.
  • Intrusion Sensor: Monitors interior; do not leave passengers or pets inside.

Before arming system and activating intrusion sensor:

  • Ensure all doors and windows closed
  • Secure loose items (sunshades)
  • Ensure no obstructions block sensors in front overhead console
  • Close DVD screens

Intrusion and Inclination Sensors Disable Switch

Deactivate if pets are left in vehicle or vehicle is being transported. With vehicle off, press o in front overhead console. Indicator light or instrument cluster message shows sensors disabled until next alarm arming.

Steering Column Lock

If equipped, locks the steering column when vehicle is off and driver door opened, or door opened then vehicle turned off. Unlocks when vehicle is turned on. DIC may display messages:

  • Service the steering column lock – issue detected
  • Steering column locked – engine running but column locked (normal during remote start)
  • Steering wheel must be turned and vehicle restarted – column lock bound

If column bound: turn vehicle off, open driver door, then turn vehicle on and move steering wheel side to side ~15 seconds.

To prevent binding, straighten front wheels before turning off vehicle.

Immobilizer

See Radio Frequency Statement 0 481. Passive theft-deterrent system, automatically immobilized when vehicle off. Disarmed when ignition ON or ACC with valid remote key present. Security light indicates problem if arming/disarming fails. System only works with correctly matched remote key; up to eight remote keys can be programmed.

If engine does not start, try another remote key or backup location. Vehicle may require service
