Cadillac Escalade

Free-Turning Locks

The door key lock cylinder turns freely when either the wrong mechanical key is used, or the correct mechanical key is not fully inserted. The free-turning door lock feature prevents the lock from being forced open. To reset the lock, turn it to the vertical position with the correct mechanical key fully inserted. Remove the mechanical key and insert it again. If this does not reset the lock, turn the mechanical key halfway around in the cylinder and repeat the reset procedure.

Soft-Close / Cinching

Warning: You or others could be injured if caught in the path of a closing door. Make sure the area is clear when using the automatic soft-close/cinching feature.

If equipped, to close any door, gently push or pull it until the power cinch motor draws the door the rest of the way closed and latches. Pull the handle during a soft-close to cancel the cinching and re-open the door.

Power Door Locks

Press Q or K on the remote key. See Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation 0 7.

  • Q: Press to lock doors. Indicator light illuminates when locked.
  • K: Press to unlock doors. Fuel door also locks/unlocks.

Security Status Indicator

A light on the upper surface of the driver's door trim indicates vehicle security status:

  • OFF: Ignition ON except momentarily when locking doors
  • Solid: Securing with doors closed
  • Fast Flash: Securing with doors open
  • Slow Flash: Battery conserving secured state
  • No light: Unsecured state

Delayed Locking

This feature delays actual locking until five seconds after all doors are closed. Pressing Q on the power door lock switch while a door is open sounds a three-chime alert. Doors lock automatically after 5 seconds. Opening a door resets the timer. Press Q again to override and lock immediately. Can also be programmed via Vehicle Personalization 0 140.

Automatic Door Locks

Doors lock automatically when all doors are closed, ignition is on, and vehicle is shifted out of P (Park). Unlocking:

  • Press K on power door lock switch
  • Shift transmission into P (Park)

Automatic door unlocking can be programmed; locking cannot be disabled. See Vehicle Personalization 0 140.

Lockout Protection

If ignition is ON or in ACC/ACCESSORY and power door lock switch is pressed with driver door open, all doors lock and only driver door unlocks. If vehicle is off, system checks for remote keys inside and unlocks driver door if keys detected. Manual override: press and hold Q on power door lock switch.

Safety Locks

Rear door safety locks prevent passengers from opening rear doors from inside:

  1. Move lever down to lock
  2. Close the door
  3. Repeat for the other rear door

To open with safety lock on:

  1. Unlock using inside handle, power door unlock, or remote key
  2. Open from outside

To cancel safety lock:

  1. Unlock and open door from outside
  2. Move lever up to unlock
  3. Repeat for other door

Doors - Liftgate

Warning: Exhaust gases can enter the vehicle if driven with liftgate or trunk/hatch open. Carbon monoxide can cause unconsciousness or death. If driving with liftgate/trunk open:
  • Close all windows
  • Open air outlets fully
  • Set climate control to outside air, fan on highest setting
  • Disable power liftgate if equipped
Caution: Ensure area above and behind liftgate is clear before opening to avoid damage.

Power Liftgate Operation

Warning: You or others could be injured if caught in path of power liftgate. Ensure area is clear.
Caution: Driving with open/unsecured liftgate may damage components. Manually forcing liftgate during power cycle can cause damage.

The liftgate switch is on overhead console. Vehicle must be in P (Park). Modes:

  • MAX: Opens to maximum height
  • 3/4: Opens to reduced height (adjustable)
  • OFF: Opens manually only

To operate liftgate:

  • Press b twice quickly on remote key to move liftgate
  • Press 8 on overhead console
  • Press emblem under liftglass after unlocking doors
  • Press l on bottom edge next to latch to close

Stop operation: press any liftgate button, emblem, or b on remote key. Restart operation: press again in same or reverse direction.

The power liftgate may disable temporarily in extreme low temperatures or after repeated cycles. Vehicle shifted out of P while power function in progress continues to completion.

Falling Liftgate Detection

If liftgate closes automatically after power opening, excess weight or support strut failure is detected. Repetitive chime sounds. Remove excess weight or consult dealer if persists. Interfering or manually closing liftgate too quickly may trigger detection feature.

Obstacle Detection Features

If liftgate encounters an obstacle during power cycle, it reverses direction. Multiple obstacles deactivate power function temporarily. Remove obstruction to resume operation.

Hands-Free / Kick Operation

Move foot forward near center of rear bumper within 14 cm (6 in) of bumper, then pull back. Step away after activation.

  • Do not sweep foot side-to-side
  • Do not keep foot under bumper
  • Do not touch liftgate until it stops moving

Short delay and taillamp/chime occurs when closing with this feature. Feature may be temporarily disabled in certain conditions.

Projected Logo

If equipped, vehicle logo projects onto ground near rear bumper for 1 minute when remote key detected within 2 m (6 ft). Zone for kick: 1 m hands-free, 2 m projected logo.

Projected logo will not restart unless remote key out of range >20 seconds. Conditions preventing projected logo:

  • Low vehicle battery
  • Transmission not in P (Park)
  • Hands-Free Liftgate Control off in personalization
  • Power liftgate off
  • Vehicle parked >72 hours with no key use

Projected logo will not work for a single remote key if left near liftgate >5 m, inside vehicle, or approaches outside liftgate >5 times in 10 minutes.
