  • Window wipers

    • Operating the windshield wiper lever
      • Fig. 76: On the right side of the steering column: operating the windshield wipers.
      • The windshield wipers only work when the ignition is switched on and the hood is closed.
      • Move the wiper lever into the desired position:
        • Wipers are switched off.
        • Interval wiping for the windshield or rain sensor mode.
        • Slow wiper speed.
        • Fast wiping.
        • One-tap wiping – brief wiping.
        • Pull the lever to activate the automatic wiper/washer system.
        • Switch for interval levels or to adjust rain/light sensor sensitivity.
      • While the wiper/washer system is active, the Climatronic system switches to recirculation mode for approx. 30 seconds.
    • WARNING
      • Washer fluid can freeze on the windshield if it has insufficient freeze protection.
      • Only use washer fluid with sufficient freeze protection in winter.
      • Never use the washer system if the windshield is not warmed up.
      • Worn or dirty wiper blades reduce visibility.
      • Always replace damaged or worn wiper blades.
    • NOTICE
      • Before driving and before switching on the ignition, make sure:
        • The wiper lever is in the off position.
        • Snow and ice are removed from wipers and windshield.
        • Frozen wiper blades are carefully loosened.
      • Do not turn on wipers when the windshield is dry.
      • Wiper speed may temporarily drop when the vehicle is stationary.
      • In cold weather, move wipers to service position to loosen blades from windshield.
    • Wiper function

      • Heated washer nozzles
        • Heats frozen washer fluid nozzles automatically when ignition is on.
        • Only the nozzles are heated, not the hoses.
      • Rain/light sensor
        • Fig. 77: On the right side of the steering column: windshield wiper lever.
        • Automatically adjusts wiping delay depending on rainfall intensity.
      • Activating/deactivating the rain/light sensor
        • Press the lever into the desired position:
        • Position - rain/light sensor deactivated.
        • Position - rain/light sensor activated, automatic wiping as necessary.
        • If automatic wiping is deactivated in the Infotainment system, interval time is fixed.
      • Adjusting the sensitivity
        • Move the switch on the wiper lever to the right – high sensitivity.
        • Move the switch to the left – low sensitivity.
      • WARNING
        • The rain/light sensor may not detect all precipitation.
        • If visibility is impaired, switch on the windshield wipers manually.
