Front Seats

  • Introduction
    • The following information describes the various options for adjusting the front seats.
    • Always make sure the seats are adjusted to the correct position.
  • WARNING
    • Adjust the front seats correctly each time before driving and make sure all passengers have their safety belts fastened correctly.
    • Move the front passenger seat all the way back.
    • Adjust the driver seat so there is at least 10 inches (25 cm) between your chest and the steering wheel center.
    • Adjust the forward/back position so you can fully press pedals while legs are slightly bent.
    • There must be at least 4 inches (10 cm) between the instrument panel and your knees.
    • If this is not possible, contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer or service facility.
    • Never drive with the backrest angled too far back or forward.
    • Always sit upright with your back against the backrest.
  • WARNING
    • Only adjust seats when the vehicle is stationary.
    • Only adjust height, angle, forward/back when no one is in the seat’s range of movement.
    • Do not place objects within the seat’s range of movement.
    • The adjusting and locking areas of the seats must not be dirty.
  • WARNING
    • Using seat covers incorrectly can move the seats unintentionally.
    • Never install covers on electrical controls.
    • Use only seat covers approved for your vehicle.
  • WARNING
    • Before adjusting seats, make sure there are no cigarette lighters near moving parts.
  • NOTICE
    • Sharp objects can damage seats (zippers, rivets, belts, hook & loop fasteners).

Manually Adjusting Front Seats

  • Controls may vary depending on seat version.
  • Front passenger seat controls are mirror image of driver seat.
  • Controls:
    • Pull lever up to slide seat forward/back.
    • Pull lever toward you to adjust lumbar support.
    • Pull lever up to adjust backrest.
    • Move lever multiple times to adjust seat height.

Adjusting Power Front Seats

  • Some seats may have both manual and power controls.
  • Front passenger controls mirror driver seat.
  • Controls:
    • Adjust seat forward/back, height, and angle.
    • Adjust lumbar support forward/back.
  • WARNING
    • Power seats can cause serious injuries if used carelessly.
    • Power seats can adjust even when ignition is off.
    • Never leave children alone in the vehicle.
    • In an emergency, stop power adjustment by pressing another switch.
  • NOTICE
    • Do not kneel on seats or exert pressure with sharp objects.
    • If 12V battery is low, power seats may not work.

Rear Seats

  • Introduction
    • Describes various options for adjusting rear seats.
    • Always adjust seats correctly before driving.
  • WARNING
    • Only adjust rear seats when vehicle is stationary.
    • Risk of injury increases if rear passengers don’t sit upright.
    • Only adjust when no one is in the seat’s range of movement.
  • WARNING
    • Before adjusting seats, make sure no cigarette lighters are near moving parts.
  • WARNING
    • Center armrest must be folded upward while driving.
    • If armrest is down, center seat must not be used.
    • Never allow anyone to sit on center armrest.
  • NOTICE
    • Objects in luggage compartment can cause damage when adjusting rear seat.
    • Remove objects before sliding rear seat back.
    • Sharp objects can damage seats.

Folding Rear Seat Backrest

  • Seat backrest is divided and can be folded forward individually.
  • Fig. 65: Remote release lever in luggage compartment.
  • Steps:
    1. Move head restraints all the way down.
    2. Open trunk lid.
    3. Pull remote release lever for the section to fold forward.
    4. Close trunk lid if necessary.
