Driver assistance systems

  • Cruise control system

    • Introduction

      • The cruise control system helps to maintain a set speed.
    • Speed range

      • The CCS is available at speeds above 15 mph (20 km/h).
    • Driving with cruise control system

      • You can override the stored speed at any time.
      • Cruise control is paused while accelerating and then resumes the stored speed.
    • Displays

      • If CCS is switched on, the display shows the stored speed and status:
      • CCS active (alternative display)
      • Small/gray: CCS is not regulating speed.
      • Large/white: CCS is regulating speed.
      • If no speed is stored, display shows “–” instead of speed.
    • Driving downhill

      • Vehicle cannot maintain saved speed in all situations. Always be ready to brake.
      • Downshift before long downhill driving to use engine braking.
    • WARNING

      • Using CCS when visibility is poor, distance is insufficient, or roads are steep/winding/slippery can cause accidents.
      • Never use CCS off-road or on unpaved roads.
      • Always adapt speed and distance according to conditions.
      • Turn off CCS after using it to prevent accidental activation.
      • Do not resume stored speed if it is too fast for current conditions.
    • Operating the cruise control system

      • Switching on

        • Press the button.
        • No speed is saved yet; limiter will not start regulating speed.
      • Starting the Cruise Control System

        • Press the button while driving.
        • CCS stores and controls the current speed.
      • Setting the speed

        • Press + button to increase speed.
        • Press – button to decrease speed.
        • Press and hold to change speed continuously.
        • Vehicle adjusts speed without active braking.
      • Canceling Adaptive Cruise Control

        • Press the cancel button or brake pedal.
        • Speed remains stored.
      • Resuming the Cruise Control System

        • Press the resume button.
        • CCS resumes stored speed.
      • Switching off

        • Press and hold the off button.
        • CCS switches off and stored speed is deleted.
    • Troubleshooting

      • Cruise control system is malfunctioning

        • White indicator light turns on.
        • Yellow central warning light turns on.
        • Switch off CCS and seek professional assistance.
      • Control is canceled automatically

        • Vehicle exceeded stored speed for long period.
        • Selector lever not in D or S.
        • Brake assistance systems like ASR or ESC active.
        • Vehicle braked by Front Assist.
        • If persists, switch off CCS and seek professional help.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

    • Introduction

      • ACC maintains selected speed and adjusts speed automatically when approaching a vehicle ahead.
    • Does this vehicle have ACC?

      • Vehicle has ACC if ACC settings can be adjusted in the instrument cluster menus.
    • Speed range

      • Set speed between 20 mph (30 km/h) and 100 mph (160 km/h).
      • Maximum speed may vary by equipment and country.
    • Driving with ACC

      • You can override ACC at any time.
      • ACC cancels when braking.
      • ACC pauses while accelerating and resumes after.
      • ACC stops below 11 mph (18 km/h).
      • ACC cannot bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
    • Driver intervention request

      • If ACC deceleration is not sufficient, it will prompt you to brake.
      • Red warning light and tone will sound.
      • Take control and be ready to brake.
    • Radar sensor

      • ACC detects vehicles using a radar sensor at the front.
      • Range up to 120 m (400 ft).
    • WARNING

      • ACC cannot replace driver attention.
      • Always adapt speed and distance according to conditions.
      • Do not use ACC in poor visibility, steep or slippery roads, off-road or unpaved roads.
      • Take over steering immediately if intervention prompt appears.
      • Apply brakes if vehicle continues rolling unintentionally.
      • Always be ready to resume control of vehicle speed.
