Heating and A/C system

  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning

    • Introduction

      • The following systems may be installed in your vehicle:
      • The manual climate control system warms, cools, and removes humidity from the air.
      • Climatronic is an automatic air conditioning system which warms, cools and dehumidifies the air.
      • In automatic mode, Climatronic can automatically control the air temperature, air distribution and the volume of air.
      • The air conditioner is most effective when the vehicle interior is kept closed.
      • If there is a build-up of heat inside the vehicle, ventilation can help to speed up the cooling process.

    • Display of activated functions

      • Illuminated LEDs on the buttons indicate that the function is activated.
    • WARNING

      • Poor visibility through the windows increases the risk of collisions and accidents.
      • Keep all windows free of ice, snow, and fog to have good visibility.
      • Adjust heating, air conditioner, and rear window defroster to a setting where the windows do not fog up.
      • Only start driving when all windows are clear.
      • Only use recirculation mode for a short time.
      • Always switch off recirculation mode when it is not necessary.
    • NOTICE

      • Food, medication, and objects sensitive to heat or cold can be damaged by air from vents.
      • Do not place any temperature-sensitive items in front of the vents.
    • NOTICE

      • If the air conditioner is not working, switch it off immediately to prevent damage.
      • Have the air conditioner checked by qualified professionals.
      • Volkswagen recommends contacting an authorized dealer or service facility.
    • Overview of the functions

      • Some functions and buttons depend on equipment.
      • Switch off the air conditioning system.
      • Adjust blower speed.
      • Adjust temperature.
      • Climatronic displays show set temperatures.
      • Apply driver-side temperature to all seats.
      • Automatic mode controls temperature, air volume, and distribution.
      • Automatic mode switches off when blower speed is manually changed.
      • Switch air recirculation on/off.
      • Cooling mode cools and dehumidifies air.
      • Switch maximum cooling output on/off.
      • Air recirculation switches on automatically in cooling mode.
      • Defrost function clears windshield of fog and ice.
      • Defrost requires dehumidification, so recirculation and cooling cannot be used.
      • Climatronic defrost clears fog and ice from windshield.
      • Rear window defroster can be switched on/off while engine is running.
      • Rear window defroster switches off automatically after 10 minutes.
      • Switch seat heating on/off.
      • Direct air to upper body, footwell, windshield, etc.
    • NOTICE

      • Do not apply stickers on the rear window defroster heating wires.
      • To save fuel, switch off the rear window defroster as soon as possible.
    • Air recirculation

      • No fresh air will enter the vehicle when recirculation mode is on.
    • Switching air recirculation on and off

      • Press the recirculation button in the climate control bar.
    • Air recirculation switches off automatically

      • When defrost function is switched on.
      • When a sensor detects windows could fog up.
    • WARNING

      • Lack of air circulation can lead to driver fatigue and accidents.
      • Never use recirculation mode for long periods.
      • Only use recirculation mode for a short time.
      • Always switch off recirculation when not necessary.
    • NOTICE

      • Do not smoke when recirculation is on; smoke can cause permanent odors.
    • Climatronic

      • When reverse gear is engaged or automatic wash/wipe system is on, recirculation switches on automatically.
    • Manual air conditioning system

      • At very high outside temperatures, recirculation helps cool down the interior faster.
