Central wheel trim with visible wheel bolts

(Example: wheel trim 2) – Remove it using the hubcap tool by inserting the hook near a wheel bolt. To put it back, position hooks 4 in relation to bolts 3 and push in the wheel trim’s retaining hooks.

CHANGING A WHEEL (1/2)

  1. Switch on the hazard warning lights.
  2. Park the vehicle away from traffic on firm, flat, non-slippery ground. If necessary, place a solid support under the jack base.
  3. Apply the handbrake and engage a gear (first or reverse).
  4. Ask passengers to leave the vehicle and keep away from traffic.
  5. If you have a puncture, replace the wheel as soon as possible. A punctured tyre should always be inspected by a specialist.

Vehicles equipped with a jack and wheelbrace:

  • If necessary, remove the wheel trim.
  • Undo the wheel bolts using wheelbrace 4. Fit it pressing downwards rather than pulling upwards.
  • Mark hole 1 nearest the wheel. Fit the jack at this location. Position jack head 2 under the sill.
  • Start cranking the jack by hand to align the base plate slightly under the vehicle.
  • Turn the wheelbrace until the wheel lifts off the ground.
  • Remove the bolts and take off the wheel.
  • Fit the emergency spare wheel on the central hub and turn to align the mounting holes.
  • Crank the jack until the wheel is a maximum of 3 cm off the ground.
  • If parked on the hard shoulder, warn other road users with a warning triangle or as per local legislation.

CHANGING A WHEEL (2/2)

  • Tighten the bolts checking the wheel is correctly positioned and lower the jack.
  • With wheels on the ground, tighten bolts firmly in sequence: 5, 7, 9, 6, 8. Torque: 105 Nm. Check tyre pressure of emergency spare wheel as soon as possible.
  • If vehicle is not equipped with a jack or wheelbrace, obtain them from your approved dealer.

TYRES (1/3)

Tyre and wheel safety

Tyres are the only contact between vehicle and road; maintain them in good condition. Ensure tyres conform to local regulations. Replace with tyres of same make, size, type, and profile. Tyres should be identical to original or approved by your dealer.

Maintaining the tyres

Tyres must have sufficient tread depth. Approved tyres have wear warning strips 1 which become visible 2 at 1.6 mm remaining tread. Replace tyres when strips are visible. Overloading, long journeys, hot weather, or poor roads cause rapid wear. Incidents like striking kerbs may damage tyres and wheel rims. Have condition checked by approved dealer if needed.

Emergency spare wheel

Refer to “Emergency spare wheel” and “Changing a wheel” in Section 5.

TYRES (2/3)

Tyre pressures

Adhere to recommended pressures (including emergency spare). Check at least monthly and before long journeys. Incorrect pressures cause abnormal wear and overheating, affecting safety. Adjust pressures according to load and speed. Operations must be done by a specialist.

Fitting different tyres may:

  • Cause vehicle to not conform to regulations;
  • Change handling when cornering;
  • Cause heavy steering;
  • Affect use of snow chains.

Always use original valve caps fully tightened. Check pressures when tyres are cold; allow 0.2–0.3 bar increase for hot tyres. Never deflate a hot tyre. Large wheels are more sensitive to imbalance; contact approved dealer if vibration occurs.

Use in winter
  • 2WD: snow chains must be fitted to front wheels.
  • 4WD: snow chains may be fitted to front only or all four wheels. Do not fit snow chains only to rear wheels.
  • Chains must match original tyre size. Only certain chains approved; consult dealer.
  • Winter tyres recommended on all four wheels. Observe rotation direction and speed index.
  • Studded tyres: use only for limited period, as per legislation, at minimum on two front wheels. Consult dealer for advice.
  • Swap wheels regularly to ensure even tyre wear. Refer to maintenance documents for intervals.
