Renault Duster 2010-2025 ADVICE: antipollution, fuel economy and driving

ADVICE: antipollution, fuel economy and driving (2/3)

  • Double declutching and accelerating before switching off are unnecessary in modern vehicles.
  • Do not try to maintain the same speed up a hill; accelerate no more than you would on the level. Keep your foot in the same position on the accelerator pedal.
  • Do not overrev the engine in the intermediate gears. Always use the highest gear possible without labouring the engine.

On versions with an automatic gearbox, it is preferable to keep the gear lever in position D.

Your vehicle has a greater ground clearance than an ordinary passenger vehicle, giving it a higher centre of gravity. This makes it more susceptible to rolling during sudden or aggressive manoeuvres or when cornering at high speeds. Take extra care when the vehicle is loaded, particularly if the load is on the roof. Ensure all passengers are wearing seat belts. A label affixed to the sun visor reminds you of this.

Vehicles with 4x4 (4WD) transmission

On flat, level ground, with the vehicle unladen, it is recommended to start in second gear.

Driving Problems

On the driver’s side, only use mats specially adapted for the vehicle and attached to prefitted devices. Check regularly to make sure they are secure. Do not overlay several mats to avoid the risk of pedals jamming.

ADVICE: antipollution, fuel economy and driving (3/3)

In vehicles fitted with air conditioning, it is normal to observe an increase in fuel consumption (especially in urban conditions) when it is used. For vehicles with manual air conditioning, switch off the system when it is not required.

Advice for reducing consumption and preserving the environment
  • If the vehicle has been parked in the sun, open the doors for a few moments to let the hot air escape before starting the engine.
  • Never fill the fuel tank right to the brim to avoid overflow.
  • Do not leave an empty roof rack fitted to the vehicle.
  • It is better to fit a trailer for bulky objects.
  • When towing a caravan, fit a wind deflector and adjust it carefully.
Advice on use
  • Electricity is fuel; switch off all unnecessary electrical components. Keep lights on when visibility is poor.
  • Use the air vents. Driving with windows open at 60 mph (100 km/h) increases fuel consumption by ~4%.
  • Avoid door-to-door journeys (short trips with long stops) because the engine never reaches ideal temperature.
Tyres

Increased fuel consumption could result from:

  • Insufficient pressure
  • Using non-recommended tyres

ENVIRONMENT

Emissions

Your vehicle is designed to emit fewer greenhouse gases (COâ‚‚) while in use, consuming less fuel (e.g., 140 g/km, 5.3 l/100 km for diesel vehicles). It is equipped with a particle filter system including a catalytic converter, an oxygen sensor, and an active carbon filter (prevents fuel tank vapour from being released). Certain diesel vehicles have an additional particle filter to reduce soot emissions.

Please contribute to protecting the environment:

  • Dispose of worn parts (battery, oil filter, air filter, batteries) and oil containers via specialist organisations.
  • At the end of the vehicle’s service life, send it to approved centres for recycling.
  • Comply with local legislation regarding recycling and disposal.
Recycling

Your vehicle is 85% recyclable and 95% recoverable. Many components are designed for easy removal and reprocessing. Numerous parts are made from recycled plastics or renewable materials (vegetable/animal-derived, e.g., cotton or wool). The vehicle is designed with environmental respect for its entire service life, from production to use to end-of-life. This is illustrated by the Dacia eco² group signature.

Manufacture

Your vehicle is manufactured at an industrial site that implements policies to reduce environmental impacts on rivers and natural areas, including reduction of water and energy consumption, visual and noise pollution, atmospheric emissions, and wastewater.
