Chevrolet Silverado

Vehicle Security

This vehicle has theft-deterrent features; however, they do not make the vehicle impossible to steal.

Vehicle Alarm System

The indicator light on the instrument panel near the windshield indicates the status of the system:

  • Off: Alarm system is disarmed.
  • On Solid: Vehicle is secured during the delay to arm the system.
  • Fast Flash: Vehicle is unsecured. A door or the hood is open.
  • Slow Flash: Alarm system is armed.
Arming the Alarm System
  1. Turn off the vehicle.
  2. Lock the vehicle in one of two ways:
    • Use the RKE transmitter.
    • With a door open, press Q on the interior of the door.
  3. After 30 seconds, the alarm system will arm and the indicator light will begin to slowly flash. Pressing Q on the RKE transmitter a second time will bypass the delay and arm immediately.

The alarm system will not arm if the doors are locked with the key.

If a door or the hood is opened without first disarming the system, the alarm will activate. The turn signals will flash and the horn will sound for about 30 seconds.

Disarming the Alarm System
  • Press K on the RKE transmitter.
  • Start the vehicle.

Unlocking the driver door with the key will not disarm the system or turn off the alarm.

Detecting a Tamper Condition

If K is pressed on the RKE transmitter and the horn chirps three times, an alarm occurred previously while the system was armed. A message may appear on the Driver Information Center (DIC).

Steering Column Lock

If equipped, the steering column lock is a theft-deterrent device that locks the steering column when the vehicle is turned off. The column unlocks when the vehicle is turned on.

  • Service message indicates an issue with the column lock.
  • Locked message may appear during remote start.
  • If binding occurs, turn the steering wheel side to side and restart the vehicle.

To prevent binding, straighten the front wheels before turning off the vehicle.

Immobilizer

This vehicle has a passive theft-deterrent system that automatically immobilizes the vehicle when turned off and disarms when the ignition is turned on.

Only a correctly matched RKE transmitter or key will start the vehicle. If the engine does not start and the security light remains on, there may be a system issue.

Up to eight transmitters or keys can be programmed. If a transmitter or key is faulty, contact your dealer for service.

Do not leave the transmitter, key, or any device that disarms the theft-deterrent system inside the vehicle.

Exterior Mirrors

Convex Mirrors

A convex mirror can make other vehicles appear farther away than they really are. Check the inside mirror or glance over your shoulder before changing lanes.

Standard Mirrors

The passenger side mirror is convex shaped, providing a wider field of view.

Trailer-Tow Mirrors

The upper portion of the mirror is flat, while the lower portion is convex and adjusted manually for better visibility.

Manual Mirrors

If equipped, adjust manual mirrors by moving them up, down, left, or right to see the side of the vehicle and the area behind it.

Extending Trailer-Tow Mirrors

  • Manual Extend: Pull the mirror housing outward in one smooth motion.
  • Power Extend: Press the power extend
