Maintenance

BMW Maintenance System

The maintenance system indicates required maintenance measures, supporting road safety and operational reliability. Scopes and intervals may vary according to country-specific versions. Replacement work, spare parts, fuels, lubricants, and wear materials are calculated separately. Additional information is available from the service center.

Condition Based Service (CBS)

Sensors and special algorithms consider the driving conditions of your vehicle. Condition Based Service recognizes maintenance requirements and adapts them to your user profile. Detailed information on service requirements can be displayed on the Control Display.

Service Data in the Remote Control

Information on required maintenance is continuously stored in the remote control. Your service center will read this data and suggest appropriate service procedures. Always provide the service specialist with the remote control used for the vehicle most recently.

Storage Periods

Storage periods during which the vehicle battery was disconnected are not considered. If this occurs, have a service center update time-dependent maintenance procedures, such as checking brake fluid, and, if needed, changing the engine oil and microfilter/activated-charcoal filter.

Service and Warranty

Please consult the Service and Warranty Information Booklet (US models) or the Warranty and Service Guide Booklet (Canadian models) for additional information on service requirements. Maintenance and repair should be performed by your service center. Make sure to record all regular maintenance procedures in these booklets as proof of regular maintenance.

Socket for OBD (Onboard Diagnosis)

  • Note: The socket for onboard diagnostics may only be used by the service center or a workshop authorized by the vehicle manufacturer. Unauthorized use may cause operating problems for the vehicle.

Position

There is an OBD socket on the driver's side for checking primary components in the vehicle's emissions system.

Emissions

  • Warning lamp lights up: Emissions are deteriorating. Have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.
  • Warning lamp flashes: Indicates excessive engine misfiring. Reduce vehicle speed and have the system checked immediately to prevent serious damage to emission control components, particularly the catalytic converter.
