BMW X3

Loading

Hints

  • Overloading the vehicle: To avoid exceeding the approved capacity of the tires, never overload the vehicle. Overloading can lead to overheating and increases the rate of tire damage, which could result in sudden loss of tire inflation pressure.
  • No fluids in the cargo area: Make sure that fluids do not leak into the cargo area; otherwise, the vehicle may be damaged.
  • Heavy and hard objects: Do not stow any heavy or hard objects in the interior without securing them; otherwise, they may present a danger to occupants during braking or evasive maneuvers.

Determining the Load Limit

  1. Locate the following statement on your vehicle’s placard:
    • The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed XXX kg or YYY lbs. Exceeding this may cause vehicle damage or unstable driving.
  2. Determine the combined weight of the driver and passengers.
  3. Subtract the combined weight of the driver and passengers from XXX kg / YYY lbs to find available cargo and luggage load capacity.
  4. Example: If the limit is 1,000 lbs and there are four 150 lbs passengers, the available cargo capacity is 1,000 - 600 = 400 lbs.
  5. Ensure that the combined weight of luggage and cargo does not exceed the available capacity calculated above.

Load

The maximum load is the sum of occupants and cargo. The greater the weight of occupants, the less cargo can be transported.

Stowing Cargo

  • Cover sharp edges and corners on cargo.
  • Heavy cargo: place as far forward as possible, directly behind and at the bottom of rear passenger seat backrests.
  • Very heavy cargo: if rear seats are unoccupied, secure each of the outer safety belts in the opposite buckle.
  • If necessary, fold down the rear backrests to stow cargo.
  • Do not stack cargo above the top edge of the backrests.
  • Use the trunk partition net to protect passengers; ensure objects cannot penetrate it.

Securing Cargo

Lashing Eyes in the Trunk

There are four lashing eyes in the cargo area to secure cargo.

Lashing Eyes in the Trunk with Rails

Four movable lashing eyes are available. To slide, press the button and ensure the eyes latch at the new position. Lashing eyes at rail openings can be removed.

Cargo Net, FlexNet

The flexible cargo net hooks into eyes to secure cargo. The net can be attached to:

  • Lashing eyes in the rails
  • Eyes on the trunk wall

The eyes are located on both sides of the trunk.

General Cargo Securing

Stow and secure cargo as described; otherwise, it may endanger occupants during braking or evasive maneuvers.

  • Smaller, lighter items: secure with retaining straps, cargo net, or draw straps.
  • Larger, heavy objects: secure with cargo straps.
  • Use cargo straps, cargo netting, retaining straps, or draw straps on the lashing eyes in the trunk.

Roof-Mounted Luggage Rack
