Climate Control

Vehicle features and options

This chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with the series. It also describes features that are not necessarily available in your car, e.g., due to the selected options or country versions. This also applies to safety-related functions and systems. The respectively applicable country provisions must be observed when using the respective features and systems.

Automatic Climate Control

Overview

  • 1 Vent settings
  • 2 Air flow
  • 3 AUTO program
  • 4 Interior temperature sensor — always keep clear
  • 5 Recirculated-air mode
  • 6 Temperature
  • 7 Defrosts windows and removes condensation
  • 8 Cooling function
  • 9 Rear window defroster
  • 10 Seat heating

Hints

Sufficient ventilation: When remaining in the vehicle for an extended period, ensure sufficient external ventilation. Do not continuously use recirculated-air mode; otherwise, air quality in the interior deteriorates and window condensation increases.

Climate Control Functions in Detail

Manual Air Distribution

Press buttons repeatedly to select a program:

  • Windows
  • Upper body region
  • Footwell
You may combine these programs as needed.

Air Flow (Manual)

Turn the ring to set the desired air volume. The higher the rate, the more effective the heating or cooling will be. The air flow of the automatic climate control may be reduced automatically to save battery power.

AUTO Program

Press the AUTO button. Air flow, air distribution, and temperature are controlled automatically. Depending on the selected temperature and outside influences, air is directed to the windshield, side windows, upper body, and footwell. The cooling function is switched on automatically with the AUTO program.

Recirculated-Air Mode

Temporarily suspend the supply of outside air to avoid unpleasant odors or pollutants. Press the button repeatedly to select an operating mode:

  • LED off: outside air flows in continuously.
  • LED on, recirculated-air mode: supply of outside air is blocked permanently.
Recirculated-air mode switches off automatically at low external temperatures after a certain time to avoid window fogging. If windows fog over, switch off recirculated-air mode and increase air flow if needed.

Temperature

Turn the ring to set the desired temperature. The automatic climate control reaches this temperature as quickly as possible by adjusting heating or cooling output, and then maintains it. Do not rapidly switch between different temperature settings, or the system may not adjust properly.

Defrosts Windows and Removes Condensation

Press the Defrost button. Ice and condensation are quickly removed from the windshield and front side windows.
