Tire Changing
Removing the Spare Tire and Tools
To access the spare tire and tools:
- Open the liftgate. See your owner's manual.
- Lift the load floor.
- Remove the four wing nuts, then remove the cargo management system.
- Remove the wheel wrench (1) from the tool tray.
- Remove the wing nuts and bracket (3), then remove the tool tray (4). If wing nuts are too tight, use the wheel wrench end to loosen them.
- Remove the jack (2) from the tool tray and place it next to the tire being changed.
- If equipped with a subwoofer (5), remove the center wing nut (6), then remove the subwoofer. Do not disconnect wiring. Fold third row seats completely flat to allow space for subwoofer. See Third Row Seats 3 21.
- Remove the spare tire and place it next to the tire being changed.
- If no subwoofer, remove center wing nut, then remove spare tire and place next to the tire being changed.
Removing the Flat Tire and Installing the Spare Tire
- Do a safety check before proceeding. See If a Tire Goes Flat 3 105.
- Turn the wheel wrench counterclockwise to loosen wheel nuts, do not remove yet.
- Place the jack near the flat tire.
Caution: Make sure the jack lift head is in the correct position to avoid vehicle damage.
Position the jack lift head at the jack location nearest the flat tire. Jack must not be used elsewhere.
Warning:
- Getting under a vehicle lifted on a jack is dangerous. Vehicle could slip off and cause injury or death.
- Raising the vehicle with an improperly positioned jack can damage the vehicle or cause it to fall.
- Jack provided with vehicle is only for changing a flat tire.
Caution: Using a jack incorrectly could damage your vehicle. Position correctly under frame and avoid plastic molding contact.
- Turn the wheel wrench clockwise to raise the jack lift head until slots fit into the metal flange behind the cutout on the plastic molding. Do not raise the vehicle yet.
- Put the compact spare tire near you. Turn the wrench clockwise to raise the vehicle enough to fit the spare tire under the wheel well.
- Remove all wheel nuts.
- Remove the flat tire.
Warning: Rust or dirt on wheel or mounting parts can cause wheel nuts to loosen over time, possibly causing a crash. Clean surfaces before mounting spare.
- Remove rust or dirt from wheel bolts, mounting surfaces, and spare wheel.
- Place the compact spare tire on the wheel-mounting surface.
Warning: Never use oil or grease on bolts or nuts; wheel could fall off.
- Reinstall wheel nuts. Tighten by hand until wheel is held against hub.
- Lower vehicle by turning jack handle counterclockwise.
Warning: Wheel nuts improperly tightened can cause wheels to come off. Use torque wrench to proper specification. Follow manufacturer guidance for accessory locking nuts.
Caution: Improperly tightened wheel nuts can cause brake pulsation or rotor damage. Tighten evenly in proper sequence.
- Tighten wheel nuts in crisscross sequence.
- Lower jack completely and remove from under vehicle.
- Tighten wheel nuts firmly with wheel wrench.
