Service and Maintenance

General Information

Your vehicle is an important investment. This section describes the required maintenance for the vehicle. Follow this schedule to help protect against major repair expenses resulting from neglect or inadequate maintenance. It may also help maintain the value of the vehicle if it is sold. It is the responsibility of the owner to have all required maintenance performed.

Your dealer has trained technicians who can perform required maintenance using genuine replacement parts. They have up-to-date tools and equipment for fast and accurate diagnostics. Many dealers have extended evening and Saturday hours, courtesy transportation, and online scheduling to assist with service needs.

Your dealer recognizes the importance of providing competitively priced maintenance and repair services. With trained technicians, the dealer is the place for routine maintenance such as oil changes and tire rotations and additional maintenance items like tires, brakes, batteries, and wiper blades.

Caution: Damage caused by improper maintenance can lead to costly repairs and may not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Maintenance intervals, checks, inspections, recommended fluids, and lubricants are important to keep the vehicle in good working condition.

Caution: Do not have chemical flushes that are not approved by GM performed on the vehicle. The use of flushes, solvents, cleaners, or lubricants not approved by GM could damage the vehicle, requiring expensive repairs that are not covered by the warranty.

The Tire Rotation and Required Services are the responsibility of the vehicle owner. It is recommended to have your dealer perform these services every 12,000 km / 7,500 mi. Proper maintenance helps keep the vehicle in good working condition, improves fuel economy, and reduces emissions.

Additional Required Services

Because of vehicle usage, maintenance needs vary. Additional services are divided into:

Normal Service
  • Vehicles carrying passengers and cargo within recommended limits on the Tire and Loading Information label. See Vehicle Load Limits 3 70.
  • Driven on reasonable road surfaces within legal limits.
  • Using the recommended fuel. See your owner's manual.
Severe Service
  • Vehicles mainly driven in heavy city traffic in hot weather.
  • Vehicles mainly driven in hilly or mountainous terrain.
  • Vehicles frequently towing a trailer.
  • Vehicles used for high-speed or competitive driving.
  • Vehicles used for taxi, police, or delivery service.

Refer to the Maintenance Schedule for details on Normal and Severe Service requirements.

Warning: Performing maintenance work can be dangerous and cause serious injury. Only perform maintenance if proper information, tools, and equipment are available. Otherwise, see your dealer to have a trained technician do the work. See Doing Your Own Service Work 3 88.

Additional Maintenance and Care

Windshield

For safety, appearance, and the best viewing, keep the windshield clean and clear:

  • Signs of damage include scratches, cracks, and chips.
  • Trained dealer technicians can inspect the windshield and recommend replacement if needed.

Clean the outside of the windshield with glass cleaner.

Wiper Blades

Wiper blades need to be cleaned and kept in good condition to provide a clear view:

  • Signs of wear include streaking, skipping across the windshield, and worn or split rubber.
  • Technicians can check wiper blades and replace them when needed.

Clean rubber blades using a lint-free cloth or paper towel soaked with windshield washer fluid or mild detergent. Wash the windshield thoroughly when cleaning the blades. Bugs, road grime, sap, and vehicle wash/wax buildup may cause streaking. Replace worn or damaged blades. Damage can be caused by dust, sand, salt, heat, sun, snow, or ice.

Interior Glass

To clean, use a microfiber cloth dampened with water. Wipe droplets with a clean dry cloth. If necessary, use commercial glass cleaner after cleaning with plain water.

Caution: To prevent scratching, never use abrasive cleaners on automotive glass. Aggressive cleaning may damage the rear window defogger. Cleaning the windshield with water during the first 3–6 months of ownership reduces fogging tendency.
